I will personally dropkick the next person to send me photos via WhatsApp

I think it's fin...
No, shut up. I don't want to hear anything. I hate it!
Whenever there's some kind of event, family gathering or whatever kind of social thing, people make photos. Sometimes a fuckton of 'em. I'm into photography myself, so I'm the worst offender if you will. But that's not the problem. I like having photos, you can view later on. There's some precious memories they remind me of.
So I always wonder how people can neglect image quality so much. Like dude, your iPhone makes photos almost as well as my 800$ camera, but you decide to put them through a meat grinder before I receive them!?
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU???
They look like they're taken with a potato. Blurry, with low resolution and blocky artifacts. You want to zoom in to see who that person in the background is? With the original you could, but you don't have that. You're out of luck and nobody cares!
Well I do, but that's besides the point and simultaneously the reason you're reading this.
Um actually, I send my photos as HD
No fuck you, you stupid...
Have you looked at these so-called HD photos yourself? And have you actually compared them to the original? No? Thought as much! If you have, you can leave. I don't want to see you ever again. I'll laser your eyes myself, if I ever do see you again.
Even if you enable HD, the images are heavily compressed. Just less than without HD. Find yourself some kind of cloud storage, upload your photos and share them like that. That way people can have the original file, your phone's camera worked so hard for. If you care for your privacy you may host a photo cloud yourself or one of the many options other than OneDrive, Google Photos or DropBox. You'll find something I'm sure!
I don't care how the image looks, it's the memory that...
First, no! Second, do you know what metadata is? Honestly, I don't care. I'll explain it anyway.
Image files don't just contain the data that makes up the actual photo in them, they also contain data like time and date the photo was taken, what camera took the photo, where it was taken (if you enabled that) and maybe loads of other information. Date and time information is, in my opinion, the most important one of them. For example, your gallery app will use it to order photos correctly. You don't want your photos to be messed up, do you?
I hope, I really hope you understand how important date/time information is now.
Now what do you think, is WhatsApp gonna do with that metadata? Of course, it just throws it all out the window like I'll do with you if you send me photos via WhatsApp after reading this. And that's the final problem. I like to put whole galleries of photos together for events, I was part of. Having no date/time in them makes this task almost unbearable to the point where I often leave out photos from WhatsApp, because all metadata is gone or just wrong.
But I just want to show someone a thing
It still pains me but honestly, I do that too, and it's almost fine.
This rant is mostly about photos that are important in some way and not the throwaway stuff used in regular chats. If you're in a chat with someone, and you want to quickly show them what you're talking about, it's ok to have a crappy photo. But a timestamp would still be neat. If anyone at WhatsApp is reading this by any change, please for the love of God, leave the timestamp in. I beg you!
Dude what's wrong with you?
I hope not that much more than with any other person...
Ok now real talk for a moment. This post is an experiment. I tried to copy someone's style of writing because I like it a lot. See https://ludic.mataroa.blog/
Please don't think that I will hurt people for real. Not hurting people is my number one priority. Both physically and mentally. This is part of the reason I'm writing this. I'd rather let out my anger and frustration this way than any other.
I hope you like it and perhaps learned something :)
